I initially had this idea to make this into a design for a skateboard deck, but the design didn’t really feel right as the painting evolved. I may still put this on a skateboard once I get a better photograph, we’ll see.
This was an interesting painting to work on. I had a composition in mind, but after I completed the composition it didn’t look good, so I went back to my sketch and reworked the composition. The result was this more organic piece with the addition of the butterfly, which I really like. I enjoyed painting the butterfly I may want to find another excuse to do another painting with a butterfly.
My wife is a freelance children’s book illustrator and her web site was woefully out of date in both UI and branding. The challending part about this design is that my wife’s branding is very simple with no real color standard, instead it was all shapes. Hence, the curved design elements with just a single color that compliments the main, promoted image.
This is my friend Mikey. Last night he was assaulted trying to break up a domestic assault. I hate this happened, I hate that there was a reason for him to feel he had to step in, but I am proud that he is my friend.
I’ve really been into water and waves recently I think I’m going to pull back from that though. I don’t want all my pieces to start looking alike. This was also one of the quickest pieces that I’ve done as I did the painting over the weekend.
*apologies for the craptacular photo…hopefully will get a better picture up.
This started life a bit differently. It was going to be something more inline with “Envy Rising”, but executed poorly. So a different approach became necessary. I went geometric while leave a bit of organic flow to break things up and give some energy to the piece. It’s fun to work with yellows right now.
